Gracie Burtzel was born August 10, 1888 the daughter of Mary Burtzel living in New York City. Two months later little Gracie was placed with the Sisters at the New York Foundling Hospital in New York City.

Records show in 1895 (seven years later) Gracie was at St. Joseph's Orphanage in Green Bay, Wisconsin. After that time she lived in various foster homes until she married Joe Mosgaller.

The Green Bay Social Services register shows an entry #30, Register #2, (1897) Gracie Burtzel with an asterisk and the words "Also an adopted child from N.Y. first in Little Chute then 2 years in Michicott by Mr. Peter Breider."
