Mildred Oaks

Daily World

July 25, 1996

OTR Mildred Oaks said that when she went to the NY Foundling Home for information on her birth parents, she was told, "go home and be happy. There is nothing you will find here that can make you happier."

She was adopted by wealthy parents. She had (and is having) a wonderful life, but she wants to be able to pass on medical history, as well as family history, to her children. "Knowing where you come from gives you a sense of stability," Mrs. Oaks said.

Mrs. Oaks said that she found out she adopted almost too late to learn anything about herself. Now two grandsons are working on it.

I have spoken to several individuals whose mother/father was an OTR. Most don't dig for their parents' roots. Just a minute with Mildred Oaks should spurt them on.
